Stuck for a Christmas gift with a difference this year and terrified of the high street frenzy?
Sussex's Carr-Taylor vineyard has a special Christmas offer for the wine lover in your life: gift vouchers for a guided tour and tutored wine-tasting for 2 at only £10. This experience usually costs £29 so it's a real bargain. The gift vouchers are available for over 18's only and remain valid until 30 April 2012.
This is an opportunity to learn about the history of English Wine Production, why we do things the way we do, and to taste a variety of wines made on site.
An experienced tour guide will take you out into the vineyard for an overview of English Wine Production, the wine varieties, show where we differ from continental vineyards, the problems we encounter with weather and disease, pruning and harvesting.
Then the guide will take you into the winery and bottling plant to see the press, fermentation vats, and corking and labelling equipment. The guide will explain how sparkling wine is produced, what methode champenoise means and how we tilt and turn wine in order to extract sediment. This first part of the tour lasts about an hour, and during inclement weather will take place indoors if necessary.
After the tour, guests accompany the guide to the tasting room where several wines (including sparkling wine) can be appreciated. A further explanation of the 20 wines we make here will be given. The tasting lasts about 30 minutes, but further wine may be tasted afterwards if desired.
