Prime time TV exposure makes stars of some people and leaves others steam-rollered. Take Channel 4's popular '4 in a bed' series - where B&B owners critique one another after an overnight stay. At the end of each visit they pay what they consider fair for their stay. It's revealing and compulsive viewing for those of us who enjoy seeing people doing a great job in hospitality.
Brighton B&B 'Guest in City' owners Mardi and Dan agreed to take part in the latest series and signed up in June when approached by the production team. They told us about their overall experience of taking part.
"Initially we were unsure and had only a few hours to decide. We are proud of our guest house, which we had only owned for seven months, and decided to go for it. We were the first to play host which was daunting. Our competitors were a country pub in Gloucestershire, a river boat in Henley-on-Thames and finally to a 5 Star Guest house on the Isle of Wight. We had a lot of fun and learnt a lot. It was definitely an interesting experience."
The show runs all of next week with Guest in the City featuring on Monday 28th November at 5pm. Participants don't see the final edit until it airs so there will be more than a touch of excitement as all is revealed.
Will our intrepid Brightonians be fairly portrayed? Let us know what you think of the programme.
