Must be British All posts

To all the brilliant Pubs, Cafes & Restaurants that keep Britain fed, spending days and nights slaving over hot stoves to fill us up with great grub - you’re fueling the nation, and we thank you! But, things are about to start getting even hotter in kitchens everywhere - why? Because next year we’ve got the World coming to dinner...

british_tomatoThe 2012 Games will bring in 300,000 extra visitors, and they’re all going to need feeding. Add in the millions of Brits who eat out over that summer and we’ve got the biggest peacetime feeding mission the UK has ever had. We’ll be getting together to enjoy the Games over literally MILLIONS of meals. Shouldn’t we be serving up food grown in Britain during the British Olympics?

Loads of the food in Britain is imported from other countries, but nowadays more people want British-grown food, because they say it's fresher, healthier and cuts down food miles. We should show off our British-grown food with pride. After all, Britain produces fresh food to the strictest quality standards in Europe. This is a massive opportunity to give British-grown food a boost by getting it on menus everywhere during the Olympics, and making sure millions of pounds stays in the British economy.

But to do that we’re going to need a lot more of it for next summer. British growers and farmers can manage it, but we british_strawberryneed to act NOW so they have enough time to grow the veg and rear the animals for our Olympic dinners. McDonalds, worldwide sponsor of the Games, have decided it Must Be British and have committed to using British-grown food for their menus... If they can, could you?

Please pledge to support the "Must Be British" Shout Out, and say that you want to see food from Britain everywhere during the Olympics. Take the icons and banners for your own publicity, to show you've taken the pledge and spread the word. The public want it, the economy needs it and, with your help, British growers can deliver it.

British food during the British Olympics - isn't that just how it should be?
