All that Jazz: Rye's summer festival All posts

Rye is a quaint medieval market town, with winding cobbled streets, history oozing from every corner and surrounded by beautiful East Sussex scenery. If that's not enough reason to want to visit, there are activities to keep the whole family entertained.

One summer highlight is the Rye International Jazz Festival from Thursday 23 - Monday 27 August 2012. This five day event is jam packed with the finest in Jazz, Blues, R&B, Soul, Funk – you name it, they have it.

The festival takes over local inns and hotels and popular artists like Herbie Flower, Ginger Baker, IDMC Gospel and Anthony Strong are part of this year's confirmed line-up. Add in the street performers and you have a truly infectious atmosphere to get toes tapping and fingers drubbing.

A number of music related educational projects are included within the festival programme. So if you fancy yourself as an undiscovered musician, or would like just like to give it a try, now is your chance to shine. Join in with rhythm and movement, gospel choir or drum workshop with experienced artists and be a part of the magic!

After a day’s soaking up the electric atmosphere, retire to a cosy country cottage and relax those weary feet, and dare we say jazz hands? At Freedom, we have wonderful selection of gorgeous Rye holiday cottages offering excellent accommodation. Each is Visit England star graded, and some are situated within walking of the centre - perfect for easy access to the festival and all of the delights of Rye town.
