Full details of the entertainment programme for this year’s Arundel by Candlelight on Saturday 6 December have been announced and the day promises to be a spectacular start to the festive season. New this year is a stage at the top of the high street with full professional sound system.
The day starts at 1pm on the High Street with an Ecumenical Carol Service led by the three churches (Arundel Baptist Church, the Parish & Priory Church of St Nicholas, and Arundel Cathedral) with singing supported by the Arun Choral Society.
Father Christmas will this year be based at Arundel Museum, and welcoming children between 1pm and 4.30pm. The museum will be open from 10am to 7.30pm with the return of the popular Teddy Bear Road Show - so bring your teddy bear along for valuation by an expert. To add to the festive spirit, you can also visit the Museum by 'candle' and torch light.
At 5.00pm on the High Street stage the Chairman of Arundel Chamber of Commerce, the President of the Arundel & District Rotary Club and the Mayor of Arundel will welcome everyone to the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony. The magnificent tree has once again been kindly provided by the Norfolk Estate and erected by the Rotary Club of Arundel.
Her Grace the Duchess of Norfolk will officially switch on the lights with special guests Marcus Collins from the X Factor (who has just finished a tour of the UK and is about to embark on a solo tour of China) and Richard David-Caine from CBeebies 'Swashbuckle'; both are straight out of rehearsals from Worthing Theatres where they will be appearing in Jack Frost. They will both be in town to have pictures taken and talk to the crowds.
The Rotary Club of Arundel will also be selling mistletoe and holly on the Town Square to raise funds to help with the eradication of the Ebola virus from Sierra Leone. The High Street and Tarrant Street will be closed to traffic from 7am to midnight however there will still be full access to the Mill Road and Lido car parks which are free from 1pm onwards. Crown Yard car park will be closed on the day. Drivers are advised to arrive into town via the A27 on the eastern (Worthing/Brighton) side of Arundel to gain access to car parks. If possible it is recommended to arrive by train to avoid congestion.
