Festival of Harbour Walks 2014
The annual Festival of Harbour Walks organised by Chichester Harbour Conservancy is celebrating its tenth year. The three day programme of walks, taking place from 24th to 26th September, covers the coastline of the Harbour from Northney on Hayling Island to East Head at West Wittering and is a popular event in the Conservancy’s calendar, with some walkers returning year after year. The route covers 34 miles of shoreline and countryside, exploring the rich landscape of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and taking in the spectacular views.
Each day offers a different experience and walkers can choose to take part for one, two or all three days. Wednesday 24th begins by coach from Northney to Nutbourne, returning on foot via Prinsted, around Thorney Island, Emsworth and Langstone. On Thursday 25th, it's a coach from Fishbourne to Nutbourne, walking back to Fishbourne via the Chidham peninsular and Bosham. On Friday 26th, the coach goes from Fishbourne to East Head and the walk returns through Itchenor, Birdham and Dell Quay.
The Harbour’s sailing clubs, Cobnor Activities Centre and the Conservancy’s Learning Zone at Dell Quay offer convenient rest stops along the route. Elevenses and coach travel are provided but walkers should bring their own lunch and plenty of water. The cost is £11 per day, call Chichester Harbour Conservancy on 01243 513275, to book your place. A limited number of dogs are permitted on the walks: please check when booking.
