HOW DOES GOOD SAFE WATER REACH YOUR TAP 24/7?
If you've ever wondered how safe drinking water reaches your tap you might want to visit "The Giants of Brede" in Brede Village near RYE, East Sussex, where they will be happy to show you.
These Edwardian Water Pumping Engines represent large-scale British Heritage Engineering at its best. Open from 10.00-16.00 on Saturday 07 January, there's free admission, parking and guided tours.
To complement the interpretation material on display a personalised presentation of historical and current items has been created. Under the direction of the Society’s Volunteer Archivist, and with the assistance of Society Members who have built the display boards, a wide-ranging and fascinating story emerges from a time of impressive progress spanning the period from 1900 to the present day. It tells the human story of how safe drinking water became available to Hastings in 1904 and illustrates the importance of such supplies for public health; an issue largely taken for granted today.
Free admission, parking and guided tours.
