From this weekend, 24th August - 8th September, the Artwave visual arts festival promises two weeks of inspiration and entertainment as artists and makers open their homes, studios and galleries to showcase their latest work.
On Saturday 24th August, Lewes Arts Fair debuts at Lewes Town Hall, promising quality art work at affordable prices. The fair will also include live action painting by internationally renowned artist and illustrator Pete Fowler a performance of The Cabinet of Charms by Helen Hockin and narrative magic from Jon Armstrong.
New to Artwave this year is the Lewes photographer, Carlotta Luke, who will showcase her latest project, Phoenix Project, in a photographic trail of Lewes Town Centre. Her project documents the artistic community based in the Phoenix Industrial Estate. The trail concludes in an exhibition at Lewes Tourist Information Centre.
Featured artist at Newhaven Fort this year, Rachel Cohen, presents her installation that responds to the Fort’s setting, architecture and collections. A fleet of 100 small ceramic boats create a poetic dialogue with the stories told at this historic site. Visitors will be given 50% discount to the Fort with an Artwave brochure.
