On October 6th Opera Comique presents a concert of the Gilbert & Sullivan operetta Iolanthe to help raise funds to support the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust centre in Arundel.
The concert performance will be held in the main gallery at WWT Arundel Wetland Centre, Mill Road, Arundel West Sussex BN18 9PB. Tickets cost £8 per person. Seating is at 6:30 and the show begins at 7 pm. Call WWT Arundel on 01903 881530 to book tickets.
The choice of the WWT Arundel Wetland Centre for the concert continues Opera Comique’s tradition of performing in unusual venues. The group have performed HMS Pinafore and the Pirates of Penzance on board the ships HMS Victory, HMS Warrior 1860 and TS Foudroyant. The Gilbert and Sullivan enthusiasts have also done shows in Portchester and Southsea Castles and in the Guildhall in London.
Opera Comique was formed in Portsmouth as a charitable trust and has raised many thousands of pounds for numerous local and national causes since it was formed in 1976.
Opera Comique’s personnel are all experienced Gilbert and Sullivan enthusiasts drawn from a wide area of the South of England and perform together several times each year. They last performed at Arundel Wetland Centre in 2002.
