On Sunday 12 August, Scotney Castle will open at 11am and not shut again until 11am the following day. During the marathon session, families will be able to complete up to 24 things from our list of 50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾, including taking a night time nature walk and watching the sun come up.
There will also be a special, one-off, picnicking opportunity in the formal gardens after 5.30pm as well as tea, coffee and other refreshments available.
The house will be open all night, offering a rare chance to enjoy a guided tour to see the rooms in, quite literally, a different light. The castle ruins will also be open all night, for those brave enough to venture inside after dark. And part of the garden will be open all night too.
It’s going to be a really unique and exciting experience. Other outdoor activities will include den building on the
wider estate, as well as demonstrations of how to light a fire without matches (another item on the list of 50 things
to do before the age of 11¾). And you will be able to toast marshmallows and enjoy the summer’s night.
To top it all off some special guests have been invited: the Mid-Kent Astronomical Society, who will be doing a spot of
star-gazing, and the Essex and Kent Paranormal Research Society, who will conduct a ghost investigation in the
Normal entry prices apply during standard opening hours (11am-5.30pm). After 5.30pm donations will apply rather than
a set price.
