Haywards Heath is one of the larger towns within West Sussex. With great connections to London it has also managed to retain a small town charm, thanks to a dedicated town council and participation in projects such as South East in Bloom.
The town hosts many events throughout the year including fairs, markets and an annual Christmas festival. A cosmopolitan atmosphere fills the air on the Broadway, with a great selection of bars and restaurants to choose from. During the summer, the outside seating gives the street a cosmopolitan vibe, where residents and visitors can feel like they are in a laid back version of London.
The town centre is home to many high street stores and well-known chains. The Orchards, Sussex Road and Commercial Square are the main shopping areas, where clothing boutiques and jewellery shops line the streets, along with other stores catering for every retail need.
There are gardens and parks around the area; Victoria Park is the town’s main open space and provides recreational activities including tennis, football and an adventure playground. Beech Hurst Gardens, on the edge of town, also has a playground, a croquet lawn and a miniature railway. However, if you prefer to relax and enjoy the countryside, there are woodland tracks and open gardens ideal for spending an afternoon away from it all.
Haywards Heath golf club has excellent facilities for keen players. The course is set in acres of parkland with views over the South Downs and the nearby Ashdown Forest. Beginners can practice at Beech Hurst Gardens pitch-and-put course before heading to the golf club to compete against the pros.
