Milland Pottery

Milland PotteryFor a one-off piece of handmade pottery, Milland Pottery has an enviable selection. Run by Angela Carter and Jane Hawkins, they make stunning pieces with a craft that they have mastered for over 50 years. On the potter's wheel, red earthenware clay is moulded and shaped before being heated to form a solid shape.

What emerges are beautiful pots, jugs, plates and more, all decorated with striking colours and patterns. There’s something about a piece of hand-made pottery that can make a room, or even just a table, look homely and inviting.

From the outside, the building blends perfectly with the rural countryside surroundings of Milland. Inside, the wood beams and unfinished clay scattering the surfaces give the workshop a traditional, rustic feel. In the showroom, shelves are stacked tall with highly glazed, original items, all in different sizes and styles.

Milland PotteryVisitors are welcome to browse the showroom and the hundreds of items for sale. It’s great to know that all the pieces are individual, but even if you don’t find something you like, commissions are welcomed. Jane or Angela will create your very own bespoke pots, plates or bowls, or even special commemorative pieces.

Milland Pottery offers classes for all the family to try their hand at the art of making pottery. Everyone can decide what they want to make and are guided through the basic techniques of moulding clay and creating useable objects.

For those who want to use the potter’s wheel, Angela also leads wheel classes at Milland…but don’t be fooled, it’s not as easy as it looks!  After getting messy, the pots are dried and decorated and ready to collect in a few weeks.

Milland PotteryJust imagine how great your very own creation would look filled with fresh flowers or sat centre-stage on the windowsill!
