Located in the South Downs National park, surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens and a stone’s throw from Alfriston village with its quirky boutiques, antique shops and famous church, Flint Barn Restaurant at The English Wine Centre has a growing reputation for excellence.
Colin and Christine Munday are as passionate about English food as they are about English wine and collaborate with Mark Goodwin, the head chef, to conjure up some fantastic menus. New dishes appear on a regular basis to take advantage
of the very best local produce as it comes into season: pheasant is sourced from the South Downs, venison from Ashdown Forest, fresh fish comes straight off the boats at Newhaven harbour, and fruit and vegetables are right on the doorstep. A
superb three course lunch will set you back no more than £25 and there are always vegetarian options.
The bistro-style restaurant is perfect for leisurely lunches or more intimate evening meals, and in the summer diners can enjoy eating al-fresco in the sun-filled courtyard. The staff are friendly and efficient, and will be pleased to accommodate
any special requests if they can.
A list of recommended English wines to accompany each menu is provided and diners are encouraged to try before deciding. Expert advice is always to hand and with a selection of 140 wines in the shop, a favourite can always be purchased to be enjoyed at home.
Of course, if reluctant to head home at all, diners can retire to one of five luxurious boutique rooms in newly built Green Oak Barn – a heavenly retreat!
Flint Barn Restaurant is open daily for lunch (12-3pm) and on Friday and Saturday for evening meals. Small parties can be catered for, while for larger groups, the stunning function room in Green Oak Barn can seat up to 90 guests.
