Since taking over a closed and run down pub, the new owners have managed to gather quite a reputation and even got recognised by the Good Food Guide 2012 (the only place in Lewes to get featured in the guide) “Traditional wooden floors and low ceilings belie a thoroughly modern culinary approach that does full justice to free-range, seasonal and sustainable produce….”
At the Kings Head you will be greeted with delicious smells wafting from the kitchen or the open fire place, a particularly well stocked bar and a delightful large sunny pub garden proudly boasting views of Lewes castle.
Local editor and renowned foodie Andrew Kay (Latest 7, April 2011) recently commented on his excitement at finding “…Chefs prepared to take this much time and trouble to create great dishes with real British heritage…” at this absolute gem of a real British pub.
The food menu at The Kings Head is a veritable feast of sensibly priced, locally sourced, seasonal produce prepared by great chefs who love their food and their food history. Their carefully researched menus are full of real British heritage. Three courses for around £20 or you can even enjoy their 2 courses for £12 menu, there seems to be something for everyone on the menu.
On Sundays the Kings Head’s roast are fast acquiring quite a reputation. If you’re looking for great live music then Thursday nights are definitely worth a try. The Kings is a must, be it for a good pint or something to eat.
