About Ridgeview Wine Estates:
Heard the buzz about how Sussex vineyards are taking on the French Champagne houses at their own game? Find out what all the fuss is about at Ridgeview Wine Estate, one of England’s leading producers of sparkling wines.
Since 1994, Mike and Chris Roberts and family have garnered more than 150 trophies and medals for the bubbly they produce from Sussex’s chalky soils, using traditional Champagne varieties and methods. And in 2010 they beat off the likes of Taittinger and Charles Heidsieck to pick up one of wine’s most coveted prizes, Best Sparkling Wine in the World at the Decanter World Wine Awards, for their 2006 Grosvenor Blanc de Blanc.
These white and rosé sparkling wines are causing such a stir that the vineyard has had to increase its production five-fold. In 2011, they’ll be turning out just under a quarter of a million bottles in the winery here. Buy them online and at the cellar door and enjoy them at local establishments such as The Bull in Ditchling and The Jolly Sportsman in West Chiltington. Nationally, pick up a bottle at Waitrose, Laithwaites and through the Sunday Times Wine Club. This vineyard is truly a homegrown success story.
Open for sales and tastings 11am-4pm Monday-Saturday. Closed during harvest in October. Tours of the vineyard, winery and cellars are available for groups of 10 or more people by appointment.
